 | | | | At itc core, GeoClik is a geographically-based, social-networking service. Our goal is simple, yet ambitious: To provide a very unique (and free-of-charge) service which enables you to forge relationships, trade items or even find/create employment, all within a customizable and safe environment.

 | | The decision to transform the underlying structure of our database systems to support the upcoming GeoRealm function produced a rather lengthy implementation period - nearly three times what was anticipated. After a couple thousand hours of dbms and logic redesign, we are now able to begin the process of adding what is hoped to become a central feature on the site. Because the GeoRealm system itself will be a large project, a management decision was made to reopen the site early in order to allow users access to all of the currently-implemented features that we have in place. After a short stint of online testing for the new dbms systems, work will begin as soon as possible to bring in the first phase of GeoRealm. Until the phase is complete, some links may not actually function (and/or some areas that "should" provide links but don't) will be modified soon.

 | | There are several simultaneous projects underway... some of which will be released in smaller upgrades and others in a single installation. Our list continues to grow and there are enough expansions & refinements scheduled for nearly two years. The following are the largest projects currently in development (or in pre-planning stages), ordered by general-development priority:
| | | | | | GeoRealm: This is by far the largest project planned, and is currently in development (in News section, above). The expected size of the completed GeoRealm system will trump nearly every other feature built into the site. The goal is to release it in several smaller packages so that it can be used as soon as possible. Even with the fragmented-release schedule, the first version will likely not be available for 3-4 months at best estimate.
In short, GeoRealm will allow you to connect with others in your local area (geographical location) and enable you to create and manage a social-networking group should you decide to take the initiative. How users connect and find one another will be a different approach to what is currently available on the web. We hope that our design plan will offer a new experience that doesn't exist anywhere else, but we also want to ensure that the system works as intended and is something that is truly useful -- in that regard, we'll be taking our time in developing GeoRealm's overall structure / format.
We'd love to tell you more about how we envision GeoRealm to work, but we're keeping the details a secret... for now :) | | | | | | Messaging Center: Not all features have been installed yet (it is running at the first version for the client interface). Although it is functional, we will be working on assembling those features that are still missing (and fixing those that are quirky). Due to the (recent) large code upgrade to support GeoRealm, there may be a bug or two that need to be squashed - the additional code wound up requiring a lot of new security and database-audit operations which may not exhibit errors until it is run outside of the testing environment for awhile. Please contact support if any strange behavior is encountered. | | | | | | Programming of an internal Help/Ticketing system is scheduled to begin in the near future. Until the Help function is enabled, we will continue to use the original (support) email address for all support-related requests. Questions, comments or concerns? For the time being, this is the place to send them! A support representative will reply as quickly as possible to all email received in this mailbox:
| | | | | | Classifieds System: Search-Filtering passthrough area will be revamped as part of the new search engine which is in the pre-planning stage. The current code level is the "original" release and is functional, but is only a fraction of what we have planned. The next version is slated to include session-based caching, keyword search, user-defined (saved) searches, as well as a Deep-Search feature which will give our users total control over what is returned in the search results. The Deep-Search application was planned from the beginning of GeoClik's birth and will be a seamless integration into the current database structure, giving registered users the ability to refine their searches in a more intuitive / accurate manner.
For those who are not logged in, we are aware that it has very limited functionality - this was a bit of an oversight on our part. Due to the much larger projects in development, this will be resolved in the future but is not planned anytime soon. For now, logging into the site to access your personal ClikSpots will be the best way to use the classifieds system. | | | | | | Advertising: The original Professional-Advertising Solution currently supports advertising within the Classifieds area (which is the free-listings area). It was not created with the intent to support multiple areas of the website, but plans are in the works to expand functionality into the GeoRealm system. | | | | | | Maps: They're somewhat central to our operation but are still in their infancy (and are rather basic). Plans are on the drawingboard to upgrade them but this will also require an upgrade to the site's global Imaging-Shell Subsystem (see below). All GeoClik maps are created from scratch, so they will consume a large amount of our resources to complete this project. | | | | | | Imaging-Shell Subsystem: Luckily, the original layout and code structure was designed to enable color/design alterations to the website... on the fly. As we currently maintain several hundred custom images (and growing), this will require a bit of footwork on our part to make it happen. Although it is something that we would like to implement soon, many projects currently underway have been given a higher priority. At present time, our goal is stability and functionality with the main site features... once this has been obtained, work to expand the Imaging Shell will begin. | |

| | | | | | An error has been fixed with the Account-creation function: We accidentally left an exit statement in the module while troubleshooting an issue. This has been removed.
The large quantity of complex code added in support of the upcoming GeoRealm release is now implemented throughout nearly every aspect of the site and uses very strict permission-control subsystems, some of which may require additional refinement outside of the test environment. Please report any issues that are found (such as information/images/profiles that you believe you should be able to see but can't), and we'll troubleshoot it asap!
Gallery-View search results have been enabled for the classifieds system. It's not as "full featured" as we were hoping for, so we'll likely be enhancing the way details are displayed for each ad. Until finished, the images have details displayed in their respective "Title" (mouseover) popup. |
| | | | | | A directory-control error has been found as a result of moving to a Linux-development environment which could potentially display adverse effects for users, particularly when choosing / uploading images or creating classified ads (the error is due to the way Windows handles directory sorting versus UNIX). Users may experience a missing-database/image condition for various portions of the website when the object actually does exist, but the website cannot address/locate the object. This issue is fairly wide spread and will require a bit of work to resolve - it also may not show up for most users due to the nature of the coding error and combination of specific database setups, but we have placed this at the top of the list for resolution. Please bear with us while we work to fix it.
Some email-service providers have been found to be parsing site-signup emails, thereby corrupting the create-account link which is sent. A plaintext link will be added asap to the signup emails to help users complete the registration process.
Email addresses containing RFC-2822 Spec allowed symbols may not be supported on GeoClik. If you encounter an "unsupported Email address" error when trying to create an account or send a message, please send us an email and we will investigate.
Browser compatibility: JavaScript controls on some browsers were discovered to be faulty when the development environment moved to Linux. This seemed to only affect Mozilla-based browsers (original development took place on MSIE clients). We believe all JavaScript errors have been resolved at present time - if any additional / new issues are encountered in regards to client / website interfaces, feel free to send a message to support.
As always, we appreciate everyone's patience while we work to resolve issues - we have a lot on our plate right now but are working as quickly as possible to get everything running smoothly! |
